Annotation
My bachelor paper deals with the problems related with the national identity of the Kurds, living in the Middle East region and I discuss these problems in accordance with the Nationalism Theory.
The main research question is: What were the conditions that delayed the development of the sense of national identity among Kurdish population, so that it impeded their struggle for independence and establishing their own state “Kurdistan” in 1970-1980s when Kurdish guerrilla movement was quite active in Iran, Iraq, Sirya and Turkey.
In this paper I aim to prove the hypothesis that the failur of Kurdish struggle for independence was caused by internal disagreements and differences, that exist among Kurdish population, such as religion and language divisions among Kurds.
These kind of differencies and divisions are explanatory variables in my paper and I’m trying to validate my hypothesis with the help of these variables. The conditions, which Kurds are living in, are controlling variables.
In order to assert my view-point, I use several articles and books by A. Hastings, H.G Haupt, G. Driver, D. Romano, B. Anderson and E. Gellner as far as these authors also focus on the Nationalism Thories and the issues of Nation-building.
